World Wildlife day lost another warrior of wild

Jose Louies

Manikandan IFS – CF of Nagharhole was killed by a lone tusker today while he was in the field examining the damage caused by forest fire. He laid his life in the forest and by a tusker both protected by him on the day dedicated for wildlife !

The real side of wildlife conservation is not the stunning photos taken, conferences attended or papers published but a lot about what you do on the ground to protect the wildlife.

There is sweat, sleepless nights, physical and mental hardships and blood behind the beautiful forests and wildlife we see.

Remember these sacrifices next time when you visit a forest. Don’t forget the unsung heroes of the wild.

Joe Louies is team leader at Indian Snakes and Coordinator at Wildlife Trust of India
