MP House passes bill for death to those convicted of raping girls 12 years or below

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh has become the first state in the country where those found guilty of raping girls up to 12 years of age will get a death sentence with the passage of a Bill for this purpose in the Assembly on Monday (4 December, 2017)

Now the Bill will go to the President for his assent, State Home Minister Bhupendra Singh told reporters after the passage of the Bill in the State Assembly. Under the new law, once it is in place, Capital punishment would be awarded to rape convicts under Section 376 (A) and Section 376 (D, A), which relates to gang rape.

The Bill was introduced in the House by Rampal Singh, the State Minister for Law and Legislative Affairs. The House unanimously passed the Bill after members discussed its various provisions.
