New Delhi: On senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel’s victory in the Rajya election the Congress party today said that the BJP has learnt the lesson that it can break a few weak Congress MLAs, but cannot break the Congress party.
Expressing happiness over Patel’s victory in the Rajya Sabha elections, Congress president Sonia Gandhi thanked the Election Commission for disqualifying and declaring the votes of two Congress MLAs as invalid.
The EC had been approached by the Congress party demanding that the votes of the two MLAs, who had showed their ballot to the BJP president Amit Shah, should be declared invalid. The EC last night upheld the Congress demand.
In a hard hitting statement, senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Suresh Pachouri said, “Ahmed Patel’s victory in the Rajya Sabha is the victory of truth over the unscrupulous tactics adopted by the BJP. This election was important for the Congress party and therefore will never be forgotten. In adverse circumstances, ‘Truth has prevailed, conspiracy has been defeated’.
Ahmad Patel’s victory in the Rajya Sabha polls has been announced on 9 August, coinciding with the 75th Anniversary of the Quit India Movement, Pachouri said adding BJP has been exposed. It is a lesson for the BJP that it should “stop indulging in conspiracy”.
Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram said, ‘Money, muscle and manipulation could not win in the Gujarat RS election.” Former Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said ‘The defeat is a lesson for the BJP and they are free to approach any court.”
