Terrorist attack: 7 Amarnath pilgrims killed

Srinagar: Seven Amarnath pilgrims, including 5 women, were killed in a terrorist attack in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir tonight.

The terrorists attacked an armoured police vehicle shortly before 8.30 p.m. and the police returned fire. When this incident took place, a bus carrying pilgrims, who were returning from the Amarnath shrine, was there on the highway. The terrorists fired at the bus before they fled from the scene killing seven pilgrims and injuring many others.

According to the police, there is a strict rule that no bus carrying pilgrims should be on the highway after 7 p.m.

It has become a daily ritual…..I condemn the killing of people anywhere and everywhere….Innocent victims of hate…..Nothing can replace the life of a human being….The monsters who kill come in all shades, shapes and colours….There is absolutely no justification for any killing anywhere other than in legitimate self defence or to protect the life and physical integrity of others…..The killing of pilgrims adds an additional level of horror to the monstruous crime…..I am one with the families of the victims….to whom I offer my condolences….Efforts must be made by the authorities to give additional protection to pilgrims venturing into troubled areas….
