London: Seven people have died as a result of a terrorist attack in London, in addition to the 3 suspects shot dead by the police.

Forty-eight people are being treated in several hospitals across London. Many have life-threatening conditions.

British Prime Minister Theresa May said this in a statement in Downing Street following last night’s terrorist attack in London.

“Attacks in London are shocking and anguishing. We condemn them. My thoughts are with families of the deceased and prayers with the injured.” the British Prime Minister said. While pointing out that the recent attacks are not connected by common networks, she went on to add “they are connected in one important sense. They are bound together by the single, evil ideology of Islamist extremism that preaches hatred, sows division, and promotes sectarianism. It is an ideology that claims our Western values of freedom, democracy and human rights are incompatible with the religion of Islam. It is an ideology that is a perversion of Islam and a perversion of the truth.”

This is the third terrorist attack Britain has experienced in the last 3 months. In March, a similar attack took place, just around the corner on Westminster Bridge. Two weeks ago, the Manchester Arena was attacked by a suicide bomber. And now London has been struck once more, the Prime Minister said.

On Saturday night, around 10 p.m. a rashly driven van ploughed into a crowd of pedestrians on London Bridge and headed towards Borough Market, south of the bridge, which remains crowded at that hour because of its popular pubs and restaurants. A few men got out of the van and began stabbing people around. Soon armed police arrived and shot dead three attackers who were armed with sharp edged weapons and wearing fake bomb vests.

Indian Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, has condemned the attacks in London and has said that the attacks are shocking and anguishing.

The United States has condemned the cowardly attacks targeting innocent civilians in London. The United States stands ready to provide any assistance authorities in the United Kingdom may request, an official statement said adding: “Our hearts are with the families and loved ones of the victims. We wish a full and quick recovery to those injured in the attacks. All Americans stand in solidarity with the people of the United Kingdom.
