P A Sangma

I recall how former Speaker of the Lok Sabha PA Sangma, during a conversation with me at the Rock End Manor Hotel in Pachmarhi, Madhya Pradesh, after the opening session of the Congress conclave presided by Sonia Gandhi in september 1998 had told me that the alarm bells are ringing due to the explosion of Muslim population in India.

The aim of the muslims is to multiply quick and spread out as voters across the country in the next 20 to 25 years, Sangma had said adding he had arrived at this conclusion after a detailed study of population figures, especially with reference to the illegal Bangladeshi migrants in the North-eastern States. They are systematically focussing on chosen areas in almost every city in India and working towards occupying and encroaching upon public places and land by building mosques and madrassas and altering the population demographically, Sangma had underscored. He had also pointed to what he described as a diabolic road-map of the muslims. It is backed by illegal Bangladeshi migrants, radicalized wahhabis, and Saudi money, Sangma had underscored.

“They shall demonstrate their power in coming years and by 2050, will have wide sway over india in terms of numbers and majority.” This concern was expressed by Sangma in no uncertain terms.

PA Sangma was the speaker of the Lok Sabha from 1996 to 1998 and chief Minister of Meghalaya from 1988 to 1990. He had contested the 2012 presidential election which he lost to Pranab Mukherjee.

Sangma had opposed the projection of Sonia Gandhi as a prime ministerial candidate on the ground that the PM should be a native Indian and had then parted ways with the Congress to form the Nationalist Congress Party. In 2013, he had formed the National People’s Party.
