New Delhi:  Air India continues to face maintenance issues. Air India flight AI437 from Delhi to Bhopal got delayed this evening due to technical snag.

While the arrival display board at Bhopal airport kept flashing at 8.20 p.m. that flight AI437 would be landing at 8.25 p.m., the plane had not even taken off from Delhi. After a considerable delay, the  aircraft started out a second time but then it returned again to the bay at 2010 hrs as the problem that was fixed reappeared again.

When the matter was brought to the notice of Air India CMD Ashwani Lohani, the display board changed tack at 8.45 p.m. and started flashing 10.20 p.m. as the expected time of arrival of this flight at Bhopal.

At 8.50 p.m. the passengers waiting eagerly for  the aircraft to take off were informed that they would be changing the plane.

The prevailing situation raises alarm bells. A huge drama was enacted by Air India to convey that they believe in running their flights on schedule. Yesterday they had sent SMS messages informing the passengers that the flight in question originally scheduled to take off at 7.05 p.m. would be delayed and shall depart at 9.15 p.m. This was followed by another message saying that it shall leave on time.

Today the passengers were allowed to board on time a ramshackle aircraft that was obviously anything but airworthy. It’s seats were torn and the fixtures in its toilet were held in place by scotch tape. In between the plane took position for take off but soon all were informed that the flight shall be delayed as a technical snag has been detected.

it is an eye opener that even when passengers were told that the plane would now take off, food and other essentials had not been loaded on the aircraft. Later after a prolonged gap it was announced that the aircraft was being changed.
