Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh Congress unit is organising a huge protest demonstration and rally near the State Assembly on Wednesday (February 22) to focus people’s attention on issues like illegal sand mining from the Narmada river, corruption, hawala scandal and the VYAPAM scam.
Briefing media-persons here on the eve of the protest and “gherao” of the state Assembly in the state capital, State Congress unit president Arun Yadav said that the Congress leaders and workers will be there in large numbers to protest against what the Congress describes as “massive illegal sand mining from the Narmada river by the family members of chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.” The Congress agitation is also directed against BJP men who were running a spy racket linked with Pakistan’s ISI, unearthing of a Rs. 2,200 crores Hawala scam in which state minister Sanjay Pathak’s name has also cropped up, besides the latest Supreme Court decision cancelling admissions granted in medical colleges through entrance test conducted by VYAPAM, plight of the farmers, atrocities being committed on dalits, tribals and women and extreme corruption.
Yadav said that top Congress leaders, including AICC General Secretary Mohan Prakash, former Union ministers Kamal Nath, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Suresh Pachauri, Kantilal Bhuria, Congress general secretary and former chief minister Digvijay Singh will be joining tomorrow’s protest.
