CBI arrests Chhattisgarh IAS officer in bribery case

b-l-agrawalRaipur/New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested Babulal Agrawal, (IAS-88), Principal Secretary, Chhattisgarh Government; his brother-in-law Anand Agrawal and another person, Bhagwan Singh, resident of Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh, in an on-going investigation of an old corruption case by the CBI.

The arrested accused were produced today before the Special Judge, CBI Cases, Patiala House Courts in New Delhi and remanded in police custody.

CBI had registered a case on 18 February 2017 against the Principal Secretary, the two other arrested persons along with a resident of Hyderabad (Telangana) and other unknown persons under section 120-B of IPC read with Section 8 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 on the allegations related to payment of Rs. 1.5 crore by the public servant to private persons as gratification for help in a case against him, under investigation by CBI.

It was further alleged that an amount of Rs. 45 Lakh was handed over by the arrested IAS officer to a hawala dealer at Raipur from 11 February 2017 onwards which was to be delivered at Delhi to the person residing at Greater Noida, out of which, Rs.20 Lakh has been delivered to that person at Delhi. It was also alleged that the receivers agreed to accept part gratification payment in the form of 2 Kg of Gold to be delivered by brother-in-law of the IAS officer to the contact of the other accused from Hyderabad at Raipur.

During investigation, 2 Kg of gold was recovered. Searches were earlier conducted at the premises of accused persons and Hawala operators at Raipur, Hyderabad & New Delhi and Greater Noida. An amount of Rs.20 Lakh earlier delivered to the Greater Noida resident at New Delhi was also recovered during searches.
