New Delhi: Braving protests from the main opposition Congress side, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today emphatically stated in Lok Sabha that the timing for demonetisation (8 November last year) was perfect as the country’s economy was good.
The Prime Minister was speaking on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address. It was adopted by the House while the Congress staged a walkout.
Significantly, close to 200 amendments to the Motion moved bythe Opposition were rejected. The Prime Minister spoke on issues like surgicval strike and allocations under MNREGA (Rural Employment Guarantee Act) and the state of the agriculture sector.
The Prime Minister especially underscored the need for simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and the State Assemblies and asked all political parties to rise above party lines and consider this issue.
