Heavy polling in Punjab and Goa

Assembly electionsChandigarh/Panaji: There was heavy polling in Punjab (70%) and Goa (83%) during the first round of polling for State Assemblies today.

Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Manipur are the other States going to poll later this month and beginning of March.

This is the first time that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is in the poll fray outside Delhi and is angling for power in Punjab and Goa. In Punjab the fate of veteran Shiromani Akali Dal leader and chief minister Prakash Singh Badal, who is seeking a sixth term in office, his son Sukhbir Badal and Congress party’s CM candidate Captain Amarinder Singh has been locked in the electronic voting machines.

In Goa, five former Chief ministers and serving CM Laxmikant Yashwant Parsekar are in the fray.
