Indore: A CBI Special Court here today convicted under Sections 302 (murder) and 120 (b) (criminal conspiracy) of IPC and sentenced for life interior designer Zahida Pervez and three others for the murder of RTI (Right to Information) activist and Anna Hazare supporter Shehla Masood in the State capital in August 2011.  .

Defence lawyers Sanjay Sharma and Sunil Shrivastava said after the verdict that they would challenge it in higher court.

Zahida, the prime accused, her friend Saba Farooqui, Saqib Ali alias `Danger’ and Tabish were convicted in the Shehla Masood murder case by Judge B K Paloda. The CBI was the investigating and prosecuting agency in this case.

One of the accused Irfan, a resident of Kanpur, was discharged by court as he had turned approver (State’s evidence).

CBI Special Public Prosecutor Atul Kumar told reporters: “The prosecution convinced the Court that Zahida, out of jealousy, hired the killers to get rid of Shehla due to her growing intimacy with the then BJP MLA from Bhopal Dhruvnarayan Singh.” Saqib Ali had hired professional shooters Tabish and Irfan, to assassinate Shehla.

Shehla, who was also running an event management company, was shot dead at point blank range at about 11.30 a.m. on August 16, 2011 by unidentified assailants after she had got into her car outside her residence in the Kohe-Fiza area in Bhopal to join an anti-corruption protest rally in the state capital.
