DHA ( Dubai Health Authority) launched its ‘robot’ pharmacy at Rashid Hospital last week. This is the first smart pharmacy in the Middle East, featuring a robot for dispensing the medicines. The smart pharmacy was inaugurated in the presence of Dr Ali Al Syed, director of the Pharmaceutical Services Department; Dr Ahmad Bin Kalban, CEO of Hospital Services Sector, and Dr Alya Al Mazroui, CEO of Rashid Hospital.
Dr Syed said on this occasion that the robot can store upto 35,000 medicines and dispense up to 12 prescriptions in less than a minute . This will not only minimise the customers’ waiting time but will also make dispensing process paper-free as the robot will store the prescription as soon as the doctor documents it electronically. He further said as the robot would now be dispensing medicines, the pharmacist will be able to focus attention on giving the correct instructions to the patients about dosage and other necessary instructions.
Humaid Al Qutami, chairman of the Board and director-general of the DHA, stated that this robot is one of the latest smart technologies adopted by the authority to meet the 2016/2021 strategy. The strategy that aims to achieve a happy and healthy society. He further said that the authority will soon be providing similar smart pharmacies across all DHA hospitals.
