UAE goes for 20 strategic initiatives to nurture a generation of scientists

Dubai: UAE is taking twenty strategic initiatives to create an environment that would motivate innovation and research, and also nurture a generation of scientists.

The initiatives are based on the studies and experiences of some well known countries and will help in the growth of UAE in fields of scientific research.

To achieve the goal, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and the Ruler of Dubai, has approved twenty strategic initiatives for the Emirates Scientists Council.

Chairing a meeting of the Council, Sheikh Mohammed described the scientists as the elite of the society and said they hold a powerful place in the UAE. He also observed that everybody must appreciate their work and abilities. The scientists are a boon for the future generation, he added.

Sheikh Mohammed further said that the nation looks towards the new generation who will give their best to contribute in progress of the country and make sure it prospers. “We work today to develop a generation of UAE scientists able to compete for Nobel Prize in the next decades,” he emphasised.

The chairperson of the Scientists Council Sara Al Amiri, told the Emirati scientists that the strategic initiative aims to come up with a scientific programme that would prepare talented students to compete for the Nobel prize, set up a national agenda for research (to be launched in 2017), create UAE Scientific Challenge forums, form Interactive national laboratories, launch the Mohammed Bin Rashid medal for Scientific Honour, and a create a national programme for discovering and developing the spirit for research.
