19 killed in stampede at Rajghat bridge in Varanasi
Varanasi: Nineteen people were killed and at least others were 60 injured in a stampede at Rajghat bridge on the border of Varanasi and Chandauli where a huge crowd had gathered for a religious congregation today afternoon.
There was stampede when the followers of Jai Gurudev were heading towards Domri village on the banks of the Ganga river to join a 2-day camp
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who represents the Varanasi constituency in Parliament, has expresses grief over the loss of lives in the stampede and sanctioned Rs. 200,000 ex-gratia to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs.50,000 each to those seriously injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.
“Deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the stampede in Varanasi. Condolences to the bereaved families. Prayers with those injured”, the PM has said in a message.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav also has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 200,000 each to the next of kin of those killed and free treatment to the injured.
