3-year Rigorous Imprisonment to a former Assistant Labour Commissioner in a bribery case

BribeNew Delhi: The Special Judge for CBI Cases at Dhanbad in Jharkhand has convicted Anil Kumar Singh, the former Assistant Labour Commissioner (Central) at Dhanbad and sentenced him to undergo three years Rigorous Imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 15000 in a bribery case.

CBI had registered a case on 22 May 2002 under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against Anil Kumar Singh, the then Assistant Labour Commissioner (Central), working in the office of Regional Labour Commissioner at Dhanbad, on a complaint alleging that he had demanded a bribe of Rs. 5,000/- for processing and making payments of the claim of gratuity by the complainant’s parents. A trap was laid and the accused was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 3750 from the Complainant.

After investigation, a charge sheet under Sections 7 and 13(2) read with 13 (1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1998 was filed on 11 February 2003 against the accused in the court of Special Judge for CBI Cases at Dhanbad. The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted him.
CBI arrests a Project Manager of Mineral Exploration Corporation Ltd

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested the Project Manager of Jharia Project Office of Mineral Exploration Corporation Limited (MECL) at Dhanbad in Jharkhand State while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 13,000.

A case was registered on 29 September on a complaint lodged by a private contractor, who alleged that the accused had demanded a bribe of Rs. 13,000 from him for making payments in respect of supply of Water Tankers for MECL, Jharia Project.

CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe from the Complainant. Searches were conducted at the official and residential premises of the accused at Jharia and Dehradun (Uttrakhand).
The arrested accused was produced before the Designated Court at Dhanbad and remanded to Judicial Custody.
