Government of India to hold pre-budget discussions on schedule
New Delhi: The Union Finance Secretary and Secretary (Expenditure) will be chairing important meetings at the North Block in the Capital between 17 October and 18 November this year to finalize the Revenue Expenditure for 2016-17 and Budget Expenditure for 2017-18 in respect of the grants and appropriation relating to Government of India Ministries, Departments as well as the States.
Preparation of Budget is a time-bound exercise and hence all concerned authorities have been asked to stick to the schedule announced for the meetings to finalize the RE for 2016-17 and BE for 2017-18.
In the initial round of the pre-Budget discussions (October 17 and 18), the ministries and departments being covered include Ministries of Road Transport & Highways, Shipping, Tourism, Textiles, Department of Commerce, and Department of Revenue (covering Direct and Indirect Taxes). After that, between 21 and 24 October, the Ministries of Development of North Eastern Region, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Urban Development, Ayush and Parliamentary Affairs besides departments of Health and Family Welfare, and Health Research will be joining in the discussions.
In the last leg (November 15 to November 18), discussions will involve the Ministries like Petroleum and Natural Gas, Drinking Water and Sanitation, Railways and Panchayati Raj and Departments of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Heavy Industry, Public Enterprises, Land Resources, and Rural Development.
