Mother Teresa canonised and proclaimed as a saint

mother teresa 3Vatican City: Pope Francis today formally canonised and proclaimed the founder of the Missionaries of Charity Mother Teresa of Kolkata as a saint in front of St Peter’s Basilica.

More than 1,00,000 people, including 13 heads of state or government and hundreds of nuns from the Missionaries of Charity watched the mid-morning ceremony to honour the Roman Catholic nun on the eve of her 19th death anniversary.

Speaking at the huge mass, Pope Francis announced in Latin, ‘For the honour of the Blessed Trinity as he hailed Mother Teresa as the personification of maternal love and a powerful advocate for the poor.

We may have some difficulty in calling her ‘Saint’ Teresa, the pontiff said adding “Her holiness is so near to us, so tender and so fruitful that we continue to spontaneously call her Mother.”
