Rome: People in Ascoli Piceno today held a solemn funeral for 35 earthquake victims from the town of Arquata del Tronto.
The funeral held at the gymnasium adjacent to the hospital “Mazzoni” was presided over by Bishop Giovanni D’Ercole in the presence of President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Matteo Renzi.
The Bishop said: “Together, above all we will restore life to our communities, starting from our traditions and from the rubble of death.”
Coinciding with the funeral ceremony, the Prime Minister declared a national day of mourning. The flags will fly at half mast today on all public buildings across Italy as a mark of respect to the departed souls.
