New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep concern and pain at the prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

At a meeting with a delegation of leaders of the Opposition Parties from Jammu and Kashmir in the capital today, the Prime Minister said that those who lost their lives during the recent disturbances in the Kashmir valley are part of us, our nation; whether the lives lost are of our youth, security personnel or police, it distresses us.

Modi conveyed that his government and the nation stand with the State of Jammu & Kashmir and suggested that all Political Parties should reach out to the people and convey the same. He expressed his commitment to the development of the State and its people, and appealed for restoration of normalcy.

The Prime Minister appreciated the constructive suggestions made in the meeting and reiterated his Government’s commitment to the welfare of citizens of the State.

Modi emphasized that there has to be dialogue and we need to find a permanent and lasting solution to the problem within the framework of the Constitution. He emphasized on the need for all political parties to work together to find a solution to the problems in the State of Jammu & Kashmir.

The delegation of opposition leaders fromJ&K that met the Prime Minister today included Omar Abdullah of J&K National Conference; Ghulam Ahmed Mir, INC; Hakeem Mohammad of People’s Democratic Front; M.Y. Tarigami, CPM; Ghulam Hassan Mir of Democratic Party Nationalist; and others, to discuss the prevailing situation in the State of Jammu & Kashmir. The meeting was held in an atmosphere of free and frank discussion.
