Nice terrorist attack: Many foreigners and children among those killed
Police tried to stop the lorry before it dug into the large crowd that had gathered at Promenade des Anglais for a Bastille Day fireworks display. According to available reports, the driver ploughed on for about 2 kms before he was shot dead by the police.
The attacker has been identified as 31-year-old loner Franco-Tunisian Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel. Investigations are on to probe the attack and find out whether or not there were accomplices.
French President François Hollande condemned the attack as a “monstrosity” and announced that the state of emergency imposed after the terror attacks on Paris in November last year and due to end on July 26 would be extended by another three months.
