Election Commission announces Rajya Sabha biennial election schedule

Election Commission of IndiaNew Delhi: Election Commission of India today announced the schedule of election to the Council of States (Rajya Sabha) to fill the seats of members retiring in June-August this year.

The term of office of 57 members of the Rajya Sabha elected from 15 States is due to expire in June-August 2016.

The terms of office of the 57 Rajya Sabha members retiring by August is as follows:

The Election Commission has decided that the biennial elections to the Council of States from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarhm Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Odisha, maharashtra,Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand and Haryana shall be held as scheduled below:

The Election Commission also announced today the biennial elections of the State Legislative Councils ofKarnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Bihar.

The terms of office of the members of the State legislative Councils of Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, maharashtra and Bihar is going to expire as follows:
