Itanagar/New Delhi: The death toll in the Arunachal Pradesh landslide has risen to 16.
Till this afternoon fourteen bodies had been retrieved along with one injured person from a construction site at Thamla, about four km from Tawang town, bordering China in Arunachal Pradesh.
The incident occurred at around 3.30 am. There were 17 labourers engaged in construction work in a camp that was ravaged by landslide due to incessant rain over the last few days. Several districts in Arunachal Pradesh have been affected by heavy rain.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief on the loss of lives caused by a landslide in Tawang.
Earlier during the day, Home Minister Rajnath Singh reviewed the flood situation in Arunachal Pradesh. He called up Chief Minister Kalikho Pul and assured full central assistance to tackle the flood situation arising due to the swollen Noa Dehing river.
The Home Minister has asked Director General of National Disaster Response Force O P Singh to rush rescue teams to landslide-hit Famla village in Tawang, according to media reports.
