Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Home Minister and former State Chief Minister Babulal Gaur has come under a blistering attack from the Opposition parties after a video demonstrating his unwelcome physical conduct towards a woman at an event here today went viral.

Television news channels covering an event in the State capital where Gaur was the chief guest have recorded a footage showing the octogenarian Bharatiya Janata Party leader holding the important Madhya Pradesh Home portfolio touching a woman inapropriately – not once but twice.

Gaur was flagging off new buses at Barkheda pathani in the State capital. The video shows Gaur twice patting a woman on the rear.

In the context of the incident involving Gaur what is significant is a clarification few years ago by a Supreme Court Bench comprising Justices Arijit Pasayat and S H Kapadia which said defining women’s modesty by observing “Lack of protest can’t be an alibi.”

Gaur has been reported as telling a section of the media that he was only giving directions to women workers of the ruling BJP and the Bhopal Mayor was also there. He has emphasised the point that he was just telling those around that only women should be allowed to board the bus.

The Madhya Pradesh unit secretary and national spokesperson of Aam Aadmi Party Akshay Hunka led a demonstration in front of Gaur’s official residence here. An AAP statement said this evening that the protesting AAP workers were arrested by the police at the behest of the State government.
