Seven Years rigorous imprisonment for Income Tax officer in a bribery case

corruptionDehradun: The Special Judge, CBI Cases, Dehradun has convicted Dinesh Kumar, who was earlier posted as Income Tax Officer at Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand, in a bribery case and sentenced him to undergo seven years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs.1.5 lakh.

CBI had registered a case on the allegations that Dinesh Kumar, when he was posted as Income tax Officer at Pithoragarh, had demanded a bribe of Rs.50,000 from the complainant for settlement of his tax case and giving him a benefit of Rs. 2.7 lakh.

CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed on 29 December 2009 while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.50,000 from the complainant.

After investigation, a chargesheet was filed against the accused officer under Sections 7 and 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, in the Court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Dehradun (Uttarakhand) on 25 February 2010. The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted him on Tuesday (5 March 2016).
