Kolkata flyover case: Police registers FIR, 5 officials of construction firm detained in Kolkata
Kolkata: Five officials of the company that was building the flyover that collapsed at the busy Ganesh Talkies crossing here yesterday killing at least 24 and injuring many more, six of them critically, have been held by the Police.
Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar, told reporters “We have detained a few officials of the construction company against whom action is being taken.”
Police have also detained two company employees at Hyderabad where headquarter of the company is located. In Hyderabad a company spokesperson today cited a media report and said that the bridge could have collapsed due to a bomb explosion. Yesterday a senior comoany officer had described the disaster as an “act of oGod”.
Kolkata Police has registered an FIR against the Hyderabad-based construction firm IVRCL under sections 304, 308 and 407 of the IPC and sealed the company’s office here.
Relief workers, including Army personnel, worked through the night with cranes, iron cutters and heat cameras to rescue those trapped under concrete and iron girders. By this evening, it was claimed by officials that the rescue operation is almost over and there is no chance of anyone still trapped under the debris.
