Bargi Diversion project will not be declared a national project
The balance irrigation potential to be created by this project is less than 2 lakh ha. Therefore, this project has not been found fit for inclusion under the Scheme of National Projects.
This was stated in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today by Union Minister of State for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Prof. Sanwar Lal Jat.
The Minister told the House that for considering Bargi Diversion Project as a National Project, a team was constituted, which has submitted its report. On the basis of this report it has been decided that Bargi Diversion project will not be declared as a national project.
Bargi Diversion Project is a Major Trans valley Canal Irrigation Project of Madhya Pradesh, which envisages construction of 194 km long main canal from existing Rani Avanti Bai Lodhi Sager (Bargi Dam) .It provides irrigation of 2,45,000 ha area in Jabalpur, Katni, Satna & Rewa Districts of Madhya Pradesh as well as domestic & industrial water supply of 78MGD to Jabalpur and Katni towns. The canal with a head discharge of 227.438 cumecs is envisaged to carry waters to Jabapur district falling in the Narmada Basin and thereafter cross the high ridge and serve areas of Satna and Rewa district falling under sone and Tons Basins.
