P. A. Sangma: The visionary leader and his firm warning

P.A. Sangma

I recall how Former Speaker of the Lok Sabha P.A.Sangma, in a one-on-one conversation with me at the Rock-n-Manor hotel in Pachmarhi, on the conclusion of the opening session of the Congress conclave presided by Sonia Gandhi about 15 years ago, had told me that the alarm bells are ringing due to the explosion of Muslim population in India.

The aim of the Muslims is to multiply quick and spread out and swarm the electoral college across the country in the next 20 years, Sangma had said adding he had arrived at this conclusion after a detailed study of population figures, especially with reference to the illegal Bangladeshi migrants and the North-Eastern States.

They (Muslims) are systematically focussing on chosen areas in almost every city and working towards occupying and encroaching upon public places by building mosques and madrassas and altering the population demographically, Sangma had underscored. He had also pointed to what he described as a diabolic road map of the Muslims. He had further observed, it is backed by Bangladeshi refugees, radicalised Wahabis and Saudi money. They shall demonstrate their power in coming years and by 2050, will have wide sway over India in terms of numbers and majority. This concern was expressed by Sangma in no uncertain terms.

P.A. Sangma was the Speaker of the Lok Sabha from 1996 to 1998 and Chief Minister of Meghalaya from 1988 to 1990. He contested the 2012 presidential election, which he lost to Pranab Mukherjee. He had opposed the projection of Sonia Gandhi as a prime ministerial candidate on the ground that the PM should be a native Indian and parted ways with the Congress to form the Nationalist Congress Party. In 2013, Sangma had formed the National People’s Party.
