New Delhi: After RVS Mani, a former Under Secretary in the Union Home Ministry, in a sensational revelation in a TV interview today alleged that he had been tortured with a lighted cigarette by a senior IPS officer Satish Verma, the then chief of the Special Investigation Team probing the Ishrat Jahan case, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad, demanded on behalf of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party that there should be a fair probe to find out on whose pressure and for what purpose the affidavit linked with the Ishrat case was changed?

Mr. Prasad said that a second affidavit was produced from the prosecution side within a matter of less than two months of the first affidavit which said on the basis of inputs from the Intelligence Bureau that Ishrat Jahan and others killed in an encounter in Gujarat were LeT operatives. The premier intelligence edited and the LeT reference was deleted in the second affidavit to  build a case against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah because at that time Mr. Modi was the Gujarat Chief Minister and was the front-runner as prime ministerial candidate.

Mr. Prasad said it also needs to be probed whether or not the then Home Minister Chidambaram had been instructed by the Congress leadership to rope in Mr. Modi in this case.
