Jat agitation: 12 dead, Bill for job quota will be tabled in Haryana Assembly
New Delhi: After the death toll in the violent Jat agitation for quota in government jobs had gone up leaving a dozen persons dead, the BJP led Central Government succumbed to pressure and decided to bring a bill for granting OBC status to Jats. The Jat agitation, that claimed 12 lives, may end soon as the government on Sunday decided to bring a bill for granting OBC status to Jats. The decision was reached at a meeting chaired by Home Minister Rajnath Singh and attended by National security Advisor, Army Chief, Delhi Police Commissioner and Jat and Khap representatives.
Later during the dau, in-charge of BJP affairs in Haryana Anil Jain said that a Bill for reservation in jobs for Jats will be brought in the coming Budget of Haryana Assembly.
In the meanwhile, water supply in the Union Capital remained disrupted for last two days as Haryana had failed to restore water supply to Delhi. More than a thousand trains had been cancelled and schools have been shut. There are reports of action to disperse the protesters at Akbarpur-Barota canal to ensure release of water but to no effect. Later the efforts to release water were postponed,when one person was killed in firing. In Haryana, there has been large scale rioting, looting and arson. shops, malls and schools have been attacked and set ablaze.
