Arunachal Pradesh MapNew Delhi : The Supreme Court rejected the plea filed by two former rebel Congress lawmakers in Arunachal Pradesh challenging the acceptance of their resignations by the State Speaker, Nabam Rebia. A division bench, comprising Justices Anil R Dave and Adarsh Kumar Goel, questioned the two former rebel Congress lawmakers on their act of having maintained silence at the appropriately needed time. The two leaders — Wanglam Sawin and Gabriel D Wangsu — were asked to explain why they chose to keep silent for 15 long days before the resignations were accepted by the State Speaker, Nabam Rebia last year.

The Supreme Court heard the plea of both MLAs and decided to not interfere with the Gauhati High Court’s January 12, 2015, interim order. The order had upheld the Speaker’s decision to accept the resignations of Sawin and Wangsu.

Arunachal Pradesh is presently functioning under President’s rule ever since the Governor decided to bring in centre’s intervention in the daily functioning of governance since disputes rose between the elected representatives in the local state assembly from the ruling and opposing wings of MLAs.
