New Delhi : The present President of BJP (Bhartiya Janata Party), Amit Shah has been re-elected as Party President for a fresh term of three years. Shah had taken up the post in 2014, when present Home Minister, then party President Rajnath Singh had vacated the seat mid-term and handed over the reins to Shah. After giving a series of electoral gains in several states, and a few setbacks in some, BJP has shown its trust in the leader again, and decided to let the control rest in his able hands, for which the entire party stood united today and greeted the new President.
Top party leaders led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers and Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states proposed his name for the party President’s post during the nomination process. With support from leaders such as Union Minister Rajnath Singh, Anant Kumar and J.P. Nadda, M. Venkaiah Naidu, besides BJP Chief Ministers Vasundhara Raje, Raghubar Das, Shivraj Singh Chauhan and others, the party decided to declare Amit Shah as the most appropriate person to bear the party torch for a full term here on.
BJP Parliamentary Board is scheduled to meet on January 28 evening to welcome Amit Shah into his new term. PM Modi extended his wishes to the President and tweeted — Congratulations to Amit Shah on being elected BJP President. I am confident the party will scale newer heights under his leadership.
Conspicuous by their absence were senior leaders of BJP, the Margdarshak veterans like L. K. Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi — and their absence was justified by current BJP leaders as a reason of health situation at their respective end. BJP leaders clarified that Amit Shah would be personally visiting the veterans and receiving their blessings.
BJP is all set to enter into several upcoming state polls again under the guidance and leadership of President Amit Shah.
