Islamabad/NewDelhi: With just 48 hours left for the scheduled Foreign Secretary level talks, Pakistan today issued an official statement announcing that the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Azhar Masood has been detained along with several others of the terrorist outfit following actionable intelligence provided by India holding the extremist group responsible for the Pathankot terror attack.
Masood Azhar was among three militants released in December 1999 following the hijacking of Indian airlines Airbus A300 – IC 814 en route from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal to Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, India. The three militants were implicated in terrorist acts, including the 9/11 New York, the kidnap and murder of Daniel Pearl and 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. Azhar subsequently founded JeM in 2000 which was behind the 2001 Indian Parliament attack.
