New Delhi : Instagram will hold its maiden, first ever photograph exhibition in India tomorrow where photos generated from the photo and video sharing app will be put on public display. The social media app, owned by Facebook, would be showcasing photos and videos from community generated Instagram posts. The event, which is scheduled to take place in Kolkata, would be an exhibition focused around the theme ‘Celebrating Diversity of Bengal’. The showcase is organised at the ICCR gallery in Kolkata.
Community-centric photo exhibition would be depicting collage of images, which would show the culture, tradition and festivities of West Bengal. It would feature a combination of images covering festivals of West Bengal and images from the local Instagram community capturing diversity of the state in landscape, people, food, wildlife, architecture, etc. The company announced via a statement — People today are finding their visual voice through the images we capture and share with others, each image telling a story about what we’re experiencing. Images are universal. They transcend language and cultural barriers.
The platform is revolving around various aspects of India, a country with myriad hues and textures of religion, culture, food and practices. Diversity is the focal point of a densely-populated country like India, and the Instagram community in India has shown its inclination towards portraying cultural nuances using the power of mobile app.
