Lahore : Prime Minister Narendra Modi has landed in Pakistan on a surprise visit to meet his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif. PM Modi made this special detour while returning from Afghanistan. He took the two countries by surprise when he tweeted about the visit regarding his stopover. PM Modi was on his way back to India from Afghanistan when he stopped off in the eastern city of Lahore. The visit coincides with Sharif’s birthday which happens to be today. PM Sharif shares his birthday with former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, whose birthday today is being celebrated as Good Governance Day for the second consecutive year after BJP-led NDA government took to rule in central government.
PM Modi is the first Indian PM to visit Pakistan since 2004 after former PM Vajpayee. The leaders of both countries met briefly in Paris last month on the sidelines of the COP21 climate change conference. PM Modi was greeted by PM Nawaz Sharif at the airport, where both leaders welcomed each other with a warm hug.
