Deadly fire blaze grips Saudi hospital, dozens killed
Jizan : More than a dozen of people were reported killed and around hundreds injured when a fire broke into the hospital premises in Jizan General Hospital. The medical establishment was filled with people and fire caused intense casualties to men, women and children. Women admitted in the maternity wing had to be rushed out in the exigency which resulted in several stampede and commotion within the hospital premises.
At least 25 people have been killed and more than a hundred injured in the hospital fire in southern Saudi Arabia. The blaze started at the intensive care and maternity departments of the Jazan General Hospital in the south of the kingdom as informed by the civil defence agency. An immediate investigation was set forth to evaluate the reasons behind the fire. The injured have been transferred to private and general hospitals in the nearby area. The fire which took place at a hospital in Jizan, Saudi Arabia started early morning, at about 2.30 am local time. The authorities are still identifying the actual cause of blaze which began on the first floor of the hospital. Casualties took heavily on the wards operating within the floor, and the intensive care unit and maternity ward got most affected as they were both located on the first floor.
Saudi Arabian authorities are investigating on the scene of fire. More than 20 fire brigades from the civil defence directorate were deployed to fight the blaze.
Jizan is the capital of the Jizan region in southwest Saudi Arabia, located immediately north of the Yemen border.
