macri argentinaBuenos Aires : Conservative candidate Mauricio Macri has been confirmed as the winner in Argentina’s presidential elections after his ruling party opponent conceded. This result came in as almost all votes got counted resulting in Macri leading Daniel Scioli with a votecast percentage of 51.5% to 48.5%. As the results closed in towards victory, the Conservative leader Macri broke into steps of exuberant dance on the stage at the rally venue, which converted immediately into a victory rally at his Buenos Aires headquarters. He celebrated the win by first thanking his staff for their support all through. As he addressed thousands of supporters who were cheering him for his victory, Macri said, ‘Today is a historic day. It’s the changing of an era.’ Macri’s victory is certainly the onset of a change era, as this conservative gain is the first in more than a decade for Argentina’s centre-right opposition and marks the end of 12-year rule of the Peronist Party.

Daniel Scioli accepted the defeat and said he respected the popular will. Scioli, a close ally of outgoing President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, had been expected to win by a lead margin in October. He tried to regain lost ground by attacking Macri’s market-driven economic policies, but failed to convert his words into vote.
