Our government is unsparing on corruption practices, says PM Modi
New Delhi : Corruption will not be tolerated, was Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strong and direct message during the inauguration of sixth Global Focal Point Conference (GFPC) on Asset Recovery here at Vigyan Bhavan today. Modi emphatically said, the ruling NDA government has taken significant steps to check corruption and menace of black money. Implying that comprehensive and deterrent laws have been enacted to keep a check on corruption, He said — The government has taken significant steps to check corruption and menace of black money in a short span of time. Our government is committed to make bureaucracy more efficient, performance oriented and accountable. Our mission is to build a prosperous India.
Corruption had been the reason for debacle of the previous UPA government led by Congress, and the present ruling government is taking fast lessons from the previous government’s follies, and the BJP government is taking fastrack correctives to curb the graft menace from the brewing stage itself. Beside personally monitoring programs like ‘Pragati’ – the monthly review schedule of stalled projects, PM Modi is leaving no loopholes for corruption practices to bloom and flourish under his PMship. Addressing the audience at GFPC inauguration, Modi said it was essential to fight relentlessly against corruption and that the government was unsparing when it came to punishing the corrupt. In his exact words — We have constituted a Special Investigation Team under Supreme Court to look into the issue. Comprehensive and deterrent law has been enacted that provides for stringent penalties. The government is unsparing when it comes to punishing the corrupt. Our mission is to build a prosperous India. To achieve this objective, it is essential to fight relentlessly against corruption. Corruption is a principle challenge. India is in a crucial phase of nation building. There’s a need to fight relentlessly against corruption.
Highlighting various steps taken by his government against black money, PM Modi invoked Kautilya who had suggested confiscating of illegitimate wealth of corrupt officials. Bringing attention to current situation globally, and connecting the dots of India and world affairs, PM said — Governments across the world work to transform the lives of the poor and the marginalized. Dastardly acts in Paris are a grim reminder that terrorists have shown ability in funding. Funding includes smuggling of narcotics, bank robbery, vehicle robbery, and state sponsored activity in failed states. Auction of coal blocks and FM radio licences have eliminated the element of discretion in allocation of resources. Government has taken several steps to make the bureaucracy more efficient, performance oriented and accountable. Government is committed to implementation of a uniform global standard on Automatic Exchange of Information on a fully reciprocal basis.
