New Delhi : An organized inter-state syndicate involved in diverting PDS Kerosene oil for commercial use was busted by Delhi police. Five persons including the kingpin have been taken into police custody and huge quantity of Kerosene oil which was transported in tankers has also been seized.
Delhi Crime Branch busted an organized Interstate racket involved in siphoning of kerosene oil from the Public Distribution System (PDS) spread over Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, which was diverting it for the commercial use at Delhi. Five persons, namely – Dinesh (49), Tribhuvan Singh (44), Kamal Verma (40), Satender (42) and Het Ram (36) have been arrested along with 25,000 liters of Kerosene oil in two tankers.
Intel inputs were received which indicated that an organized gang was operating on national level and was involved in diverting PDS-quota kerosene oil, into commercial use in Delhi. Crime branch investigated the matter and setup a dedicated team led by KPS Malhotra. A trap was laid on the basis of information provide to the Intel agencies, which resulted in confiscating two tankers bearing registration numbers HR-38R-2069 and HR-45A-8164, which were identified and barricaded in Delhi-Gurgaon border, National Highway-8. Further probe into the contents of the tankers revealed that these tankers were carrying kerosene oil, which, according to admittance from the driver, revealed, having been procured from Beawar, Ajmer (Rajasthan) and Sonbhadra, UP. The tankers were painted with the name of Bharat Petroleum and its logo, which was being used as a camouflage of Govt PSU Oil Company. Police team involved few persons of Indian Oil Company, HPCL and Bharat Petroleum who helped in investigation and guided in search and seizure. A case vide FIR No.158/15 (under sections 418/420/468/471/34/120-B IPC & 3/7/10/55 Essential Commodity Act) had been registered, based on which, four persons were arrested from the spot and subsequently the mastermind Het Ram Goel was nabbed.
The smugglers admitted during interrogation that the syndicate procured kerosene oil from various states through the middlemen of local area. The kerosene oil allocated by the Food and Civil Supplies department to various distributors of Fair Price Shops was getting diverted by the distributors and dealers of fair price shops. To safeguard the subsidized kerosene oil from such malpractices, government authorities had coded the use of a specific color i.e., blue for PDS kerosene oil. The smugglers modified color of oil by adding certain chemicals, which prevented their detection and made smuggling smoother.
