Ahmedabad : Security in Gujarat has been tightened up following an alert issued by the central intelligence agencies regarding possible terror strike in in the state. Police officials have gone on high alert drill and security measures have been beefed up, as informed by higher level police officials of Gujarat state.
Police officials appraised the media, saying – Security has been beefed up at all the sensitive points in the state. Routine drills, in the wake of such potential strike threat, are being carried out and checking of vehicles has begun. Vigilance at places like railway stations, dharmashalas, hotels and bus stops in Ahmedabad has been intensified, following an advisory from a central intelligence agency. There is nothing to panic about as such and we shall take care of it.
A series of anonymous letters threatening to blow up the famous temples of Somnath, Ambaji and Shamlaji, banks, schools and colleges were received by the authorities concerned in the last fortnight have put the Gujarat police on statewide alert. Gujarat has been high on the agenda of terror groups trying to create disturbance in the state over past years, and this has added to the earlier series of terror threats, which Anandiben-led BJP state government is not taking lightly, after the previous terror attacks which the state had suffered in yester years.
Vadodara police has received as many as 18 threats of bomb blast from the managements of banks, schools and colleges since September 14.
