Two Indians detained in Syria, confirms MEA
With two Indians already in the custody of Islamic militants since more than month, in an earlier abduction case, the list has expanded and added two more who got abducted in Sirte in war-devastated Libya.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson confirmed this news that according to information provided by Indian Mission in Tripoli, two Indian nationals – Pravash Ranjan Samal, hailing from Odisha, and Ramamurthy Kosanam, resident of Andhra Pradesh,, have apparently been taken from Ibn-e-Sina in Sirte where they had been working, and have been detained by militants.
MEA spokesperson added that all efforts were being made to negotiate an early release of Indian nationals from the war-struck nation.He added that Indian mission in Tripoli was making further inquiries for confirmation of the incident and was in touch with local people there, who could tip off and help in securing release of the two Indian nationals.
The matter has also been taken up at diplomatic level and MEA has begun talking ways and means of release.
Sirte is under control of the Islamic State terror group, which is steadily expanding its influence in central Libya.
