According to unconfirmed reports, the explosion was triggered by gelatin sticks kept with LPG cylinders at a house near the restaurant. It is learnt that these explosives were kept for mining purpose.
Three houses and the restaurant were turned into rubble by this explosion and the death toll is expected to rise. At the time of the explosion, many school children were eating breakfast at the restaurant.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the loss of lives due to the cylinder blast in Jhabua.
A statement from the PM said: “Extremely pained at the loss of lives due to the cylinder blast in Jhabua. My deepest condolences to the families of the deceased.”
“I wish all those injured a speedy recovery. MP Govt. is monitoring the situation closely”, the Prime Minister said.
State Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has also condoled the loss of lives and offered compensation of Rs 200,000 to the families of the dead and Rs 50,000 to the injured victims.
In Bhopal, the state capital, the Vishwa Hindi Sammelan (World Hindi Conference) organised jointly by the Union Ministry of Extrenal Affairs and Madhya Pradesh Government continued despite the explosion and a large number of casualties in tribal dominated Jhabua district and there was the usual festive mood on the concluding day.
