Chandigarh : Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a new terminal at Chandigarh Airport and inaugurated it few minutes ago. The new terminal is a facility which will cater to both domestic flights as well as international travel facilities.
A modern state of art facility, newly constructed, comes in as an infrastructure boost to the crowded Chandigarh Airport which will now enable easy handling of rush hour of domestic and international tourists with this region of country.
Made out of a kitty of 939 crores of Indian rupees, this ambitious aviation ministry venture is projected as a harbinger of regional infrastructure capacity boost for North India, which will fall under the jurisdiction of Chandigarh International Airport Ltd (CHIAL), a joint venture (JV) of Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Government of Punjab and Haryana.
A centre-state JV in place, AAI holds 51 percent stake in this JV and becomes the major partner of the project whereas Punjab and Haryana government gets a 24.5 percent equity each, plus the maintenance and operational responsibility of the new terminal.
Giving company to the PM at this ambitious launch were – Governor of Punjab and Haryana and Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh, Kaptan Singh Solanki, Union Minister for Civil Aviation, P Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his Haryana counterpart Manohar Lal Khattar.
