New Delhi : Delhi Police has registered an FIR (under section 307, 323, 498A of IPC) against Aam Aadmi Party MLA and former Law Minister Somnath Bharti under domestic violence charges. His spouse Lipika Mitra had accused Bharti of domestic violence and had appeared with her side of story in media few months ago, wherein the DCW (Delhi Commission for Women) stood by her side in this dispute. The couple was taken to counselling sessions. However, the complainant (spouse) insisted on proceeding with the case and then, the FIR got documented. Charges include attempt to murder, dowry harassment, cruelty and cheating for which case has been registered at Dwarka North police station.
A tainted reputation of sorts has been associated with Bharti, who during his stint as Law Minister in AAP’s 49-day government had conducted midnight raids on Ugandan and Nigerian women (the infamous Khirki extension episode). Recently, Bharti was in spotlight for infamous sexist remarks pertaining to safety of women in Delhi.
