Newsroom24x7 Desk

crime against womenNew Delhi : While the Narendra Modi-led Central Government and the Delhi Government led by Arvind Kejriwal were busy shooting words of venom at each otherand fighting over power, especially when it came to controlling the Delhi Police, and when Delhi’s Lt Governor Najeeb Jung was more obsessed with what postings he gets to handle or which police officer should handle Delhi’s Anti-Corruption Branch when it was probing the sensitive 13-year old case linked with the issuing of fitness certificates to CNG vehicles- the incidence of crime against women has continued to rise sharply in the national capital.

Newsroom24x7 investigation on crime in Delhi, with specific reference to women related crime, has thrown up disturbing figures. In the last couple of years – to be precise, 2013 onward the Delhi’s crime graph, especially with regard to reported incidents of rape and molestation of women has shot up there has been a  has presented the following facts, which have been represented graphically for a better perspective.

After Delhi had been rocked by the Nirbhaya case, elections were won at the Centre and in Delhi based on the lofty promise of women’s safety, crime reduction and making Delhi a better place. Yet, data speaks volumes about promises made by political parties. The crime statistics reveals what the Lt. Governor and Delhi Chief Minister were busy doing – transfers, postings, power tussle and what not when the women of Delhi have silently been fighting their own battle for dignity and security .

Year-wise data of rape cases registered in Delhi from 2001 till August 31 this year:

Vishwa Hindi Sammelan – Newsroom24x7 exclusive – Hindi Bhavan nostalgia

Newsroom24x7 Desk

Avantika Shashtri - Hindi BhavanBhopal : As Lal Parade ground gears up for grand celebrations of 10th Vishwa Hindi Sammelan (World Hindi Conference), Newsroom24x7 feels happy to share the snippets of inception of Hindi Bhavan in Bhopal through the single-minded determination, commitment to the cause of Hindi and hard work put in by the first Honorary Magistrate of Bhopal late Avantika Shastri.

As Joint Secretary of Rashtrabhasha Prachar Samiti, Avantika Shastri single-handedly steered the entire Hindi Bhavan project and was instrumental in bringing President Radhakrishnan to Bhopal to inaugurate it.

The grant for constructing the Hindi Bhavan building was received from the Centre after she convinced MC Chagla, the then Union Education Minister (1963 to 1966) about the claim of Madhya Pradesh for a grant to build the Hindi Bhavan. Education Ministry officials had briefed the Minister that since there is a new rule barring Hindi speaking states to claim any such grant, the application from Madhya Pradesh deserves to be turned down.

Avantika Shastri was prompt in digging a hole in this argument. She told the Minister that the rule being quoted was adopted after the application from Madhya Pradesh had been received by the Centre. ‘Why the State should suffer due to the delay by the Centre in taking a decision in this case?’ she asked Chagla, who had earlier served as Chief Justice of Bombay High Court from 1948 to 1958. Responding to her observation that it is not a case of ‘Lex posterior derogate priori’ – a rule of interpretation of laws which assists courts to resolve conflicts between laws – where, when a latter law conflicts with an earlier law, the latter law will prevail, Minister immediately passed orders approving a grant for Hindi Bhavan.

Avantika Shastri was among the first few women to drive a car on Bhopal roads with a regular driving license. She was the founder President of Aurobindo Society in Bhopal. As founder-President of Nagrik Kalyan Samiti, she had launched the Annual Dusshera Festival (symbolising the victory of good over evil). Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony at TT Nagar Stadium in Bhopal.

Politics is the art of deception

Newsroom24x7 Desk

modiNew Delhi : The debate of ruling government versus opposition has reached its boiling point wherein there are no holds barred in war of words and deeds between BJP and Congress. Elections forced Congress to vacate the centre and paved way for a promise-laden Modi-led BJP’s NDA Union government. However, while Congress wore the crown of thorns…oops scams, BJP has managed to adorn its crowning glory with jumlas, degree rows and miscalculated promises.

Result – Congress President Sonia Gandhi, while addressing a Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting this Tuesday, called Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a leader who made “Hawabaazi” (read empty hollow promises). She highlighted that Modi government has failed abysmally and stated evidence in support of her words – U-turn on land acquisition, downward slide of Indian economy, failure of Make In India’s job creation effort, total indecisiveness and random fluctuations on Pakistan policy, rewriting history by defaming Nehru and his clan, repression of media and being an RSS-controlled government (Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh).

Immediately, Minister of HRD Smriti Irani mounted a counter attack on Congress President and  Vice-President. Speaking on the Mother-Son duo,  Irani stated that Sonia Gandhi was attacking Modi just because Congress wanted to cover up its own failures.  Rahul Gandhi is the real Hawabaaz, said Irani, referring to Amethi land row, and added that Rahul was pretending to become the messiah of farmers. Irani accused Congress of emptying the coffers of government via innumerable larger-than-life scams.

To this, Veteran Congress Leader Ghulam Nabi Azad reacted saying, those without degrees could become Ministers and MPs, thanks to Congress contribution – which brought independence and democracy. Other spokespersons from Congress maintained that Irani should first come clean  on her fake degree scam and then speak on Sonia matters.

A blog written by senior Congress Leader Manishankar Aiyar highlighted the U-turn on Land ordinance. Referring to the original Land Bill passed by Congress-led UPA in 2013, Aiyar recalled how Sumitra Mahajan and Arun Jaitely, the present Lok Sabha Speaker and present Finance Minister, respectively, themselves sat through the entire bill-making process and validated it. Then, when BJP came into power, how these very own politicians joined the chorus of criticizing the 2013 Bill as anti-farmer and made amendments and imposed it via ordinance route. Aiyar smelled a Gujarat Model redo in centre on the recent lapse of Land ordinance. Aiyar claimed that Land ordinance was in total support of industrialists and resulted in farmers getting sidelined and financially being rooted out in the bargain.

NDA government’s U-turn and decision of not going forward with the ordinance and letting it lapse, conveys the dilemma of ruling union government. Connecting the dots, one reaches to the Patel reservation demand, which initiated from Modi-land Gujarat and is threatening to spread nationally, thanks to Hardik Patel. Can the land ordinance (imposed forcefully after NDA takeover in centre) be held responsible for threatening uncertainties in agriculture professionals, resulting in fear of joblessness and forcing them to demand reservation even via protests and agitations, is a point to ponder. Because, the same Land Bill which was criticized by one and all from ruling government stands accepted today by the very same government. All this is fueling the raging debate of Modi government having fallen flat on its face on promises, and lacking in deliverance.
