New Delhi : four Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) officials who were booked in a CWG (Common Wealth Games) case have been sentenced for 4 to 6 years jail term. The officials, namely, D.K. Sugan, then Superintendent Engineer (E), O.P. Mahla, then Executive Engineer (EE) Raju V, then Accountant and Gurucharan Singh, then Uppper Division Clerk (UDC) have been given 4 years, while another co-accused, T.P. Singh, then Managing Director of M/s Sweka Power Tech Engineers Pvt. Ltd. Delhi has been given a 6 year term plus a fine of Rs. 1.10 lakhs.
A case was registered (dated 16th June, 2010 under section 120-B, 420, 468, 471 of Indian Penal Code and Sec 13(2), 13(1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988). It was alleged that the accused officials of MCD entered into conspiracy while awarding tender regarding upgradation of street lighting on roads in Delhi (falling under the jurisdiction of MCD) to the above stated private firm and thereby manipulated tender documents of L-1. A loss of Rs. 3.62 crores (approx) was caused to the Govt due to this corrupt practice.
