Ahmedabad: Several cities in Gujarat have been placed under curfew following incidents of arson and stone throwing after the Police detained Hardik Patel, 21, who is leading a massive movement for granting reservation under the OBC (other backward community) category to the Patel community.
On his release, within an hour of his arrest, Patel called for a statewide bandh (strike). Patel’s supporters, who were agitated by his arrest, went on a rampage and there were incidents of stone throwing and arson in Ahemedabad and Surat, where he had led a huuge rally last week.
Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel has appealed to the people of Gujarat to maintain peace and not to indulge in activities disrupting law & order across the state.
