New Delhi: Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi today gave the new slogan “Startup India, Standup India” and said that all Indians should join with their full might to ensure rapid development and progress of the country.
The Prime Mininister was addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on Independence Day. He particularly recalled the sacrifices and the continuity and fervour that had been maintained for several decades to attain the goal of Independence.
Modi announced that the long-standing “one rank one pension” demand of the defence personnel that has continued to hang fire through successive regimes is now in the final stages of discussion and is about to be resolved. In principal, the government has accepted the demand, he said.
We will need 10 years at the ongoing pace to privide electricity to all villges, said Modi adding Team India’s aim is to complete this target in 1000 days.
Stressing the need to increase agricultural production, the PM said: our mitto should be: “save water, save energy,save fertilizers”.
On the serious issue of black money, the PM saId: “We want transparency and in the last 15 months there has been no allegation of corruption (against his government). The auction of coal mines will fetch over Rs 3 lakh crore for the public exchequer, he added. Modi also emphasIsed the need to remove corruption completely from the system
Modi described the gas subsidy campaign as highly successful and said over 2 million people have surrendered their subsidy.
Ensuring dgnity of labour is our priority, the PM said adding to meet this objective, we have the ‘Shramev Jayate Yojna’. He also appreciated people’s participation, especialy that of children in creating awareness regading the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
The PM had a special word of praise and saluted the poor for deposited Rs 20,000 crore in the bank despite the choice of opening their accounts with zero balance. He said that 17 crore people opened their accounts under the PM Jan Dhan Yojana within a set period.
The PM gave a stern message to divusive forces and said that casteism and communalism will not be tolerated,
