Government tables GST Bill: Opposition stalls business in Parliament

Sumitra MahajanNew Delhi: Both Houses of Parliament witnessed noisy scenes and matters reached such a pass that Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan was even compelled to say before declaring the House adjourned till tomorrow that she was sad by the disrespect shown to the chair by the Opposition members who were protesting in the well of the House.

Earlier the Congress members whow were protesting in the well of the House had thrown papers at the chair when Deputy Speaker Munisamy Thambidurai was presiding the proceedings. After Ms. Mahajan returned to the House the Opposition members continued wirth their protest.

In Rajya Sabha also the slogan shouting Congress MPs blocked the tabling of the Goods and Services Tax Bill when deputy chairman PJ Kurien asked Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to initiate the motion to introduce the 122nd amendment bill for a uniform Goods and Services Tax across the country. In the midst of noise and fury, the House was adjourned without any discussion.
