Delhi Police provides ‘Green Corridor’ for rapid transportation of human heart

heart transplantNew Delhi:Delhi Traffic Police last night provided a “Green Corridor” to a human heart which was taken from B. L. Kapur Super Speciality Hospital at Pusa Road in Karol Bagh here to Max Super Speciality Hospital at Saket – a distance of 20 km that was covered in record 16 minutes. The route taken from B. L. Kapur Super Speciality Hospital to Max Hospital at Saket passed through Dev Prakash Shastri Marg – Prof. Ram Nath Viz Marg – Vande Matram Marg – Ring Road –AIIMS – Aurobindo Marg – PTS Malviya Nagar – Press Enclave Road – Malviya Nagar Metro Station.

During the intervening night of 31 July and 1 August, a request was received by the police from B.L. Kapur Hospital to provide a Green Corridor to transport a human heart to Max Hospital. Immediately, traffic arrangements were made and the ambulance carrying the human heart and a team of doctors left the Hospital at around 3 a.m. and reached Max Hospital within 16 minutes. It is learnt that the heart was donated by a brain dead person.

Delhi Traffic Police ensured there was no traffic obstruction along the route and contributed in saving a life.
